Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses (SOII) provides an estimate of numbers and rates of occupational injuries and illnesses at both national and state levels. Results available for the State of Ohio represent the first of its kind in over 20 years. So, there's no previous information to use for comparison.

Important: Farms with fewer than 11 employees, private households, self-employed, and federal agencies are excluded from the survey.

Data from the survey are divided into two categories: summary data, and case and demographic data. Summary data provide information on estimated numbers and rates of non-fatal occupational injuries and illnesses. Information here includes:

• All case types.
• Cases with days away from work.
• Cases with job transfer and restriction.
• Recordable cases with no loss time.

Case and demographic data provide case characteristic information on cases with one or more days away from work only.

The summary charts and tables are designed to give you a closer look at workplace injuries and illnesses in your particular industry so you can compare your workplace injuries with others of like kind in Ohio. The demographics can even identify days of the week, times in the day, etc. when injuries typically occur in that industry. This can allow you to fine tune your safety programs and increase workplace safety. As we continue the survey, you can compare how you are trending according to like industries in the state and the nation. We hope you will take advantage of this valuable tool.
