Safety videos

BWC offers an extensive collection of audio/visual materials (streaming videos, DVDs, and USBs) to supplement your organization's safety training.

Before purchase, our subject matter experts review all of our videos for accuracy, currency and quality.

To use our audio/visual materials, you must create an online borrower account using your organization's workers' comp policy number. Can't remember if you already have a borrower account? Forgot your borrower ID? Email the BWC library or contact us at 614-644-0018. 

Order videos

We have more than 600 safety videos for Ohio employers to choose from. Once you've registered as a borrower, you can order videos using your account's borrower ID number and BWC policy number. If you have any questions, call 614-644-0018 or email us.

Search the video catalog

This page allows you to search for videos by keyword or topic, or you can view a list of new videos. You can narrow your search by video type, language, subtopic or title, or closed captioned. You can also enter the video number if you know it. If you need help finding a video, and would like to speak with the video librarian, call 614-644-0018 or email.

About borrowing

Who can borrow from the video library?
We lend materials to registered borrowers with a valid BWC policy number.

Is there a charge?
No! Borrowing materials from the library as well as shipping to and from your location is free.

How and where do I return materials?

Use the return shipping label included in your package to send materials back to the library. Please use a sturdy box or envelope, taking care to protect the materials appropriately so they are not damaged en route.

How do I request materials?
Once you have your borrower ID, you can order materials online or call the video library at 614-644-0018. You can place an order up to six months in advance.

How many videos can I borrow?
You can have up to four videos checked out at any one time.

Are there any restrictions to borrowing materials?
The library will not honor new requests or send scheduled videos if you have:

  • Overdue materials.
  • Unpaid charges for lost or damaged items.
  • Four videos already checked out.

Also, the library will not ship to:

  • P.O. boxes.
  • Out-of-state addresses.
  • Home addresses.

How can I see what videos I've borrowed previously?
When you access your video library borrower account, you can view a record of all of the materials you've borrowed since Dec. 17, 2012.

How long may I keep materials?
The loan period for materials is 14 days, including shipment to and from your location. The library will ship your order approximately five days prior to your requested show date.

I'm not finished with the materials. May I keep them longer?
If you need a longer loan period, you can renew your materials online by accessing your borrower account. Renewals are for 10 additional days, provided the material has not been previously requested by another borrower.

What happens if I'm late returning my materials?
The library schedules future orders for other borrowers based upon when we expect to have the materials back, i.e., your due date. Therefore, it's important to return your materials on time so as not to deny others the opportunity to use them. For borrowers who return materials past their due date, the library will suspend borrowing privileges for a minimum of one month.

Are there quizzes or other materials that come with the videos?
Many of the videos have accompanying quizzes, guides or CD-ROMs that can enhance your training. The video producers provide these materials, which vary in length and format. You can request to borrow these guides when you place your order.

What if I lose or damage library materials?
As we lend our materials to you at no cost, you must pay us the full replacement costs of the loaned items, plus any and all expenses of collection, should you not return the material on time and/or damaged. We'll turn over to the Office of the Attorney General of Ohio any replacement cost billings not paid within 45 days for collection of replacement costs along with all fees and expenses of collection.

May I visit the library?
For your convenience, we recommend that you call first, 614-644-0018, to ensure the materials you want are available and to be sure the staff will be there to assist you. You also can order online and request a specific pick up date. Visitor hours are weekdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

May I duplicate materials?
Most of the materials in the video library are copyrighted and therefore cannot be copied.

May I purchase videos?
We are a lending library and therefore do not sell any materials. However, vendor information is available upon request.

Streaming videos

BWC has partnered with video vendor Training Network to offer access to a selection of online streaming videos covering a range of popular safety and human resource topics. Ohio employers and employees have access 24 hours a day/seven days a week, giving them the freedom and flexibility to view videos at their convenience.

What videos are available to stream online?
To get an idea of what videos are available to stream, go to our online catalog and keyword search “streaming” then click search. The results list shows you all the videos we currently have in our collection that are also available to watch online.

Is there a charge?
No! Just like borrowing physical videos from our collection, all streaming videos are available free of charge to registered video library borrowers.

Who can use the service?
Like our DVD collection, this streaming service is for Ohio employers and Ohio employees only. If employers access the service outside the state of Ohio, their accounts will be disabled.

How do I get access?
First, you must be a registered library borrower to access our streaming videos. If you are new to the library, please complete the borrower registration and be sure to write down your 6-digit borrower ID when finished. If you have already registered with the library and forgotten your borrower ID, call 614-644-0018.

Once you are a registered borrower with the video library, send an email to library@bwc.state.oh.us. Include your name and video library borrower ID number. The library will email you instructions on how to access the streaming videos. Once the library has provided you with a username and password for streaming services, you can access the streaming video site.

What if the videos I need are not available to stream online?
Several hundred titles in our video collection are not available to stream at this time, but are available to borrow for free in DVD with your borrower ID. You can browse our current collection here.

Safety Grants best practices

•   City of Ironton (hydraulic trailer)
The City of Ironton received a safety grant to purchase a hydraulic trailer, a system that features a strong vacuum, a valve turner and a water-pressure sprayer. These components work together to minimize the strenuous manual digging and extreme exertion that can cause injuries.

•    Aexcel Corp. (vacuum lifts)
Aexcel Corp. of Mentor produces traffic safety paints and coatings in more than 500 formulations. Products are sealed, stored and transported from the manufacturing facility in five-gallon buckets that range in weight from 50 to 75 pounds. Previously, employees had to manually lift these buckets all day. Thanks to a recent safety grant, the company purchased two portable vacuum lifts. Employees now simply maneuver the portable pneumatic devices, pushing a button to elevate the bucket, which keeps employees safer and increases productivity.

•   OCP Contractors (portable board milling machines)
With offices in Toledo, Cleveland and Columbus, OCP Contractors offers complete construction services, including drywall. Many types of injuries can stem from the traditional method of milling, hanging and finishing drywall — carpenters must manually cut sheetrock, then lug heavy pieces up scaffolding or ladders. BWC awarded OCP with a safety grant, which allowed it to purchase two portable board milling machines, designed to simplify the process of cutting and shaping drywall.

•    Green Lines Transportation (rolling tarp system)
Greenlines Transportation, Inc./Roger Bettis Trucking of Malvern transports heavy items around the U.S. via trucks with flatbed trailers. Previously, employees had to cover their cargo with a dangerous and unwieldy tarp system. But thanks to a recent safety grant, the company purchased rolling-tarp systems that prevent injuries and save tens of thousands of dollars in labor costs.

•    Champion Door (work table)

•   Briar Hill Foods (pallet lifter)
Briar Hill Foods operates three neighborhood service food stores in northeast Ohio. Employees must move food shipments received on pallets onto the warehouse racking, exposing them to risk of injury. The employees exposure was virtually eliminated with the purchase of a pallet lifter.

•   Cleveland EMS (patient transport equipment or stair chair)
City of Cleveland emergency medical personnel often have to move patients up and down stairs to transfer patients to the squad. Medical personnel are exposed to risk of lower back and shoulder injuries due to using old and poorly designed equipment. The city reduced those exposures with the purchase of stair chairs.

•    Green Bay Packaging (bundle breaker)
Cincinnati’s Green Bay Packaging instituted a BWC grant to eliminate exposure and risk of injury related to cumulative trauma disorders. The employer purchased a bundle breaker which not only eliminated risk but increased productivity and decreased production costs related to breaking bundles.

•  Kaiser Foods (vacuum lift)
Kaiser Foods located in Cincinnati, produces pickles and pickled food products for the food industry. Pickles packaged in pails are lifted on pallets for stacking in preparation for shipment. Injuries associated with lifting and stacking of the pails were eliminated with the purchase and use of a vacuum lift system.

•    St. Luke Lutheran Community (patient lift device)
St. Luke Lutheran Community located in North Canton is an assisted living facility. Employees are exposed to risk of back/arm injuries, and sprains/strains related to the transfer and lifting of patients. The facility purchased patient lift devices to reduce the risk of injury.
