Disability Evaluators Panel (DEP)

DEP physicians provide quality, impartial medical examinations and medical file reviews to support the claims management process. The DEP includes doctors of medicine, doctors of osteopathy, doctors of chiropractic, doctors of podiatric medicine, doctors of dental surgery and psychologists.

The DEP’s goal is to provide objective, accurate examinations and file reviews that produce concise, timely and justifiable reports that support the claims management process. DEP physicians review online claim files in order to perform DEP services at the request of BWC and to meet legal requirements. This goal is consistent with BWC’s mission: “To protect Ohio’s workers and employers through the prevention, care and management of workplace injuries and illnesses at fair rates.”

How do I become a DEP physician?

All DEP physicians must be BWC-certified in the Health Partnership Program. You can find a detailed list of required criteria in the DEP Handbook, Chapter 2.

If you meet the required criteria, please review the DEP Physician Agreement, complete the Disability Evaluator Application (Medco-30) and email all required documentation.
