Cincinnati resident a near 30-year agency veteran
COLUMBUS – The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation named a Cincinnati resident with nearly three decades of workers’ compensation experience as its new chief of claims services today.
Shawn Crosby, who joined BWC as a front-line clerk in 1993 and most recently served as Cincinnati claims director, replaces former claims chief Patricia Harris, who was recently promoted to chief operating officer.
“Shawn brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion to this vital position,” said BWC Administrator/CEO Stephanie McCloud. “She also brings her warmth, one-of-a-kind spirit, and commitment to providing our customers the best possible service to this new role.”
Crosby has held numerous positions at BWC over the years, including project manager, injury management supervisor, and trainer. She has played a critical role on several agency-wide projects that have shaped BWC into the world-class organization it is today.
As claims chief, Shawn oversees claims operations and around 500 staff across the state to ensure compliance and consistency in injury management, settlement practices, and customer service. The staff manages approximately 610,000 open claims, including roughly 80,000 new claims each year.
“I am so excited to be trusted with this position, a role I’ve worked for my whole career,” said Crosby, who praised BWC leaders, past and present, for their guidance over the years.
Crosby said one of her first priorities will be getting to know her staff, listening to their ideas, and doing all she can “to provide our customers with the benefits they deserve.”
“I really am a person who listens to what people are saying and feeling, it’s important to me,” she said. “I’m a public servant.”
Crosby has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Indiana Wesleyan University. She and her husband of 23 years, DeAndre’, live in Cincinnati.
